I/O Underflow
Multimedia and installation artist Tony Oursler was commissioned by the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam to develop new works for a solo exhibition. Using video performances, Oursler “hacked” the church with works that question the relationship between humans and computers.

The exhibition catalogue contains photographs of, and dialogues from the video performances – and just like the originals these are full of glitches and errors too. Lost and found images from Oursler’s desktop, like pop-up ads and unwanted web banners, are inserted seemingly at random into the book. The unpredictable nature of these “hacks” underlines the uncanny message of the exhibition itself.
