The Melkweg is an old dairy that plays host to the full spectrum of contemporary music. Hip hop, dance, metal, reggae and even K-Pop all have their own version of the Melkweg. The challenge for the venue’s identity was to create something raw enough to reflect the Melkweg’s industrial heritage and unique character, but abstract enough to fit all these different subcultures.
The result is a custom typeface as rough and open to interpretation as the Melkweg itself. In its abstract form the iconography becomes a language rather than a mere typeface, and is therefore multifaceted enough to be embedded in all the various subcultures.
