‘Bold, but functional’ was the brief for the Stedelijk’s new website. Together with the team at GRRR, we created a concept and design that is provocative and intuitive at the same time.The Stedelijk’s strong identity played a big role in the design process, in which we concentrated on the mobile experience instead of the desktop site.
By pushing the main website functions up front as one giant scroll, the website is more in tune with a mobile operating system or chat-apps than an institutionalised web-folder. As there’s no traditional menu structure at first glance, just a series of big buttons, the visitor is challenged to start searching. This unexpected directness through functionality and content fits the Stedelijk’s character nicely.
