‘Bold. But functional.’ That was the complete, and very brief, briefing for the design of website for Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In collaboration with the team at GRRR, we came up with a concept that is recognizable, slightly provocative, but intuitive at the same time.
By pushing the main website functions up front as one giant scroll, the website is more in tune with a mobile operating system or chat-apps than an institutionalised web-folder. As there’s no traditional menu structure at first glance, just a series of big buttons, the visitor is challenged to start searching. This unexpected directness through functionality and content fits the Stedelijk’s character nicely.
